The service

Lantern is a record-keeping tool for UK counselling trainees and their supervisors: a ledger of client and supervision hours, automated checks against professional-body requirements, digital sign-off, and exports. It is currently offered as a pilot, which means features may change and occasional rough edges are part of the deal.

Pricing and your data

Every account is free for its first three months. After that, trainee accounts cost £3.99 a month; this is pilot pricing, locked in for early accounts for as long as you keep yours. Supervisor accounts are free. If you choose not to pay, your account becomes read-only: you keep full access to view and export everything you have logged, and months already submitted can still be signed, but new entries need a subscription. Your training record is never held hostage.

Your responsibilities

Record honestly: sign-off is a professional attestation, and entering sessions that did not take place is a matter between you, your supervisor and your professional body, not something software can police. Never enter client-identifying information anywhere in the app, including in circumstances notes. Keep your password to yourself and tell us if you believe your account has been compromised.

Not professional or legal advice

Compliance checks are computed from professional bodies' published requirements (currently BACP and NCPS), applied carefully but without warranty. Requirements change, courses add their own rules, and your body's word is final. Lantern helps you keep the evidence; meeting your training requirements remains your responsibility and your supervisor's.

Signed records

Once a supervisor signs a month it cannot be edited or deleted by anyone, including us: corrections happen through visible amendments. A supervisor's typed attestation name stays on the trainee's signed months even if the supervisor later deletes their account, because it is part of the trainee's professional record.

Liability

The service is provided as-is during the pilot. We work hard to keep your data safe and available, but we do not accept liability for indirect losses such as a missed accreditation deadline. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under the law of England and Wales, which governs these terms.

Ending things

You can delete your account at any time from Settings, and the privacy notice explains what survives. We may suspend accounts that abuse the service or attempt to store client-identifying data. If the pilot winds down we will give at least 60 days' notice so everyone can export their records.
